Research Themes

Empirical studies of dynamism of educational reform in the age of decentralization

I examine the implementation process and consequences of education reform in today’s society when the legitimacy of public education is in crisis, through interviews and questionnaire surveys of people in the field. I thereby pursue forms of public education that can be realized in modern society and that can contribute to the creation of a free and equal society, if only a little.

Empirical studies of children and young people's school experience and daily life experience in late modernity

I intend to empirically capture through quantitative and qualitative studies the life and school experiences of children and youth, and their families, in the latter period of modern society, with special attention to class and class differences.

Historical and sociological study of <school to work> transition in post-war

I aim to explain, based on an understanding of the characteristics of “transition from school to work,” which developed during the period of steep economic growth and its societal basis, how the idea of human development changed and how public education was positioned in that context, with special attention to policy, practice, and initiatives related to vocational education and education on career options. I review the concept of “education” at the same time.
