Re-examination of Hans Freudenthal's Didactics of Mathematics

The outstanding performance of Hans Freudenthal (1905-1990), who is one of the representative mathematics educators of the 20th century, has been seen as an embodiment of the history of mathematics education. Freudenthal's didactics of mathematics has an influence worldwide, including in Japan, and is one of the origins of international trends in mathematics education today.
This project is designed to consider the process of his studies in mathematics education, systematically reconstruct Freudenthal's didactics of mathematics and illustrate its characteristics.

Design Research Based on the Didactics of Mathematics Proposed by Hans Freudenthal

It has been sought worldwide, including in Japan, to create mathematics teaching and learning that emphasize students' mathematical activities and applications of mathematics.
This project is aimed at developing local instruction theories and classroom mathematical practices, based on theory of Realistic Mathematics Education.
