Research Themes

Technical Japanese Education

Learners of the Japanese language are becoming increasingly diverse, and it is more important than ever to provide Japanese language education that meets the needs of individual learners. This is what is called “specialized Japanese education” and Japanese for Specific Purpose (JSP). I examine what kind of Japanese education is needed in which area, what the appropriate instructional methods are, and which teaching materials are most effective.

Teaching Japanese as a Foreign Language

Japan has begun developing into a multi-cultural symbiotic society, with the proportion of foreign nationals in the population growing every year. It is known that many foreign nationals with Japanese ancestry are already working in Japan, particularly in the auto industry, and foreign nurses and caregivers are being readily accepted. Japanese language education is a discipline that can contribute or be needed in such a society. I would like to consider what Japanse language education means in a muti-cultural symbiotic society as I practice and research it in parallel.
