Research Themes

Study on Rational Choice and Normative Theories

In envisioning a desirable modern society and social systems, it is important to assume, as a “theoretical burden” that people act rationally. I consider, from a theoretical standpoint, the conditions that enable generation of socially desirable consequences of such an assumption.

Study on Social Stratification and Social Psychology

I explain the states of social awareness of people living in Japanese society through quantitative analysis of social survey data. Specifically, I clarify differences in social awareness in terms of social class, educational background, gender and age, and conflicting opinions related to social values, and consider the possibility of reaching agreement. I also attempt to predict future social changes.

Developmet of the Methods and Methodology of Survey Research

Based on knowledge acquired on-site, I develop practical methods and further methodology for the collection of high-quality social survey data, addressing lowered response rates and systems for the protection of personal information. Specifically, I am reviewing methods that will enhance the possibility of international comparison using medium-scale social surveys.
