Research Themes

Study on artificial photosynthesis

Study on artificial photosynthesis Conversion of solar power to easy-to-use electric power is an important research topic. Converting solar power to chemical energy is also a very important research topic from the viewpoint of energy storage. Because our primary work is to develop organic thin film solar batteries, we have a broader scope of conversion of “solar-electric-chemical energy,” instead of the direct conversion of “solar-chemical energy,” and aim to achieve efficient water-splitting which is a conversion of “electric-chemical energy.”

Study on organic thin film solar cells

Study on organic thin film solar cells We have been developing lasting organic thin film solar cells which can fabricate easily in air. The organic solar cells, in which an organic active layer is sandwiched between the ITO front electrode with electron-transport-layer and the noncorrosive back electrode with hole-transport-layer, are called inverted type solar cells because the photo-generated electrons flow in reverse against normal type solar cells. Furthermore, we have been energetically investigating on the electron or hole transporting behavior at interfaces existing in the organic solar cells using an ac impedance spectroscopy, because its analysis is very important to improve the cell performance.
